Demolition of the historic Totara strip shops
Demolition of the Totara Ave strip shops .
The New Lynn Heritage Assessment 2006 by Dave Pearson Architects says "the most cohesive group of older buildings in New Lynn"
In a more affluent neighbourhood these small heritage shops would be an artisan quarter or restored to funky cafes or galleries. This is a sad story of demolition by neglect by the building owners - Auckland Council / Panuku, as these buildings have not been kept secure and had little maintenance.
REDUCED TO RUBBLE
Not even the 100 year old bricks were saved, all sent to landfill.
No of respect for the Brick Heritage of New Lynn.
What is going to happen to the OAG'S Building?
Heritage OAG'S Building
The OAG'S building is a Category B scheduled heritage item under the Auckland Unitary Plan.
This building can be saved and restored - to make this happen we need to make it known that there are a lot of people in the community behind saving our brick heritage.
