43 Astley Ave
This beautiful Californian bungalow is constructed with a double skin of bricks fired at the Gardiner Brothers and Parker Hoffman kiln in the early 1920's.
Sitting at the top of rise on Astley Ave, opposite the heritage Parker House, the matching pair have had pride of place for nearly 100 years.
Purchased by the retirement village giant BUPA, 43 Astley Ave is under threat of demolition.
43 Astley Ave was boarded up after being empty for several years and an invitation to squatters who took up residence. NLPS contacted the local press late 2016 and now it is rented out.
Glenburn Resthome and Apartments (owned by BUPA) need to show some corporate responsibility and look after this beautiful building and incorporate it into your complex so it can be enjoyed by the elderly folk you look after
BUPA - Schedule this historic property as heritage so it is protected forever
As of 2017 BUPA have advised they have "no intention of demolishing 43 Astley Ave at this stage, and have every intention of retaining the house as part of our overall development plan".
The New Lynn Protection Society are asking BUPA to back up this up and schedule this historic property as heritage so it is protected.
